Bihar Issues High Alert After Nepal Flash Flood Hits Border Areas

Authorities in Bihar have placed the state on high alert as a sudden flash flood in neighboring Nepal raises concerns of cross‑border impact.
A flash flood struck parts of eastern Nepal on Monday, causing rapid rise in water levels and displacing several villages near the India‑Nepal border. Local officials in Nepal reported that the torrent swept away roads and damaged bridges, prompting emergency response teams to be deployed.
In response, the Bihar state disaster management authority declared a high alert for all border districts, including Kishanganj, Purnia and Araria. The department has mobilised rescue squads, pre‑positioned relief material and is coordinating with the central government’s National Disaster Management Authority to monitor the situation.
Officials warned residents in low‑lying areas to stay vigilant, avoid crossing rivers, and follow instructions from local police and disaster officials. Temporary shelters have been readied in vulnerable villages, and additional patrols are being sent to the frontier to assist any cross‑border evacuations if needed.
