Cartoq reports that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has launched Bharat NCAP 2.0, an updated vehicle safety rating system that outlines five specific actions to improve road safety across the country. The new framework is designed to provide clearer safety information to buyers, push manufacturers toward higher safety standards, and encourage the adoption of advanced safety technologies in new cars.
Under the revised program, manufacturers will be required to meet stricter crash‑test criteria and disclose detailed safety scores on vehicle displays. The initiative also aims to make safety features such as airbags, anti‑lock brakes and electronic stability control more common in the Indian market.
Industry analysts expect that the five measures embedded in Bharat NCAP 2.0 will gradually reduce the high rate of road fatalities by influencing purchasing decisions and prompting automakers to prioritize occupant protection. The program is slated for phased implementation over the next two years, with regular updates to the rating methodology.
