The Tripura government will inaugurate a combined Bharat Mata canteen and shelter house in Agartala on August 19, aiming to provide affordable meals and temporary accommodation.
The state administration of Tripura has scheduled the inauguration of a new Bharat Mata Canteen‑cum‑Shelter House in the capital city, Agartala, for August 19. The facility will operate as a public canteen offering low‑cost meals alongside a shelter that can accommodate travelers and those in need of temporary lodging.
Officials say the canteen will serve a variety of regional dishes at subsidised rates, targeting students, low‑income families and daily wage earners. The shelter component is designed to provide clean, safe rooms for a limited number of occupants, especially during emergencies or peak travel periods.
The project is part of the state’s broader effort to enhance social welfare infrastructure and promote inclusive access to basic services. Local leaders expect the centre to become a model for similar initiatives across the Northeast region.
Construction of the complex was completed earlier this year, and the inauguration will be attended by senior ministers and community representatives. The government has pledged to monitor the operation closely to ensure quality and affordability.
Once operational, the Bharat Mata Canteen‑cum‑Shelter House is expected to relieve pressure on existing public kitchens and lodging facilities, contributing to the overall well‑being of Agartala’s residents and visitors.
