A baby orangutan at Nandankanan Zoo near Bhubaneswar has been diagnosed with fever and is currently under veterinary care.

A juvenile orangutan housed at Nandankanan Zoological Park in Odisha has been reported to have a fever, prompting immediate medical attention from the zoo's veterinary team. The animal, which arrived at the facility as part of a conservation breeding program, showed elevated temperature during routine health monitoring on Monday.

Veterinarians at the zoo administered antipyretic medication and have placed the youngster under observation in a quarantine enclosure to prevent any potential spread of infection. The zoo's wildlife health unit is conducting blood tests and other diagnostics to identify the underlying cause of the fever.

Spokesperson Dr. Ramesh Kumar of Nandankanan Zoo said the animal is responding well to treatment and that staff are taking all necessary precautions. He added that there is no risk to visitors, as the quarantine area is not accessible to the public.

The incident underscores the challenges of caring for exotic species in captivity and highlights the zoo's commitment to maintaining high standards of animal welfare and disease management.
