Assamese filmmaker Rima Das has called for a permanent solution to the state's recurring floods, urging authorities to act swiftly.
Assamese filmmaker Rima Das, best known for her award‑winning film "Village Rockstars", spoke at a press gathering in Guwahati on Tuesday, urging the state government to adopt a long‑term strategy to curb the devastating floods that have plagued Assam for decades.
In her remarks, Das highlighted that the floods are not a one‑off event but a recurring crisis that affects thousands of families, disrupts livelihoods and hampers development. She called on the authorities to invest in robust infrastructure, early warning systems and sustainable water‑management practices.
The filmmaker added that the film industry, along with civil society, can play a role in raising awareness and mobilising resources. She concluded by stressing that a permanent solution requires collective action and sustained political will.
