Amritsar's Counter‑Intelligence (CI) unit announced the dismantling of a cross‑border smuggling ring dealing in narcotics and illegal firearms. During a coordinated raid, agents seized five kilograms of methamphetamine, commonly referred to as "ice," along with three pistols.
Two individuals were taken into custody at the scene. Preliminary investigations indicate that both suspects maintained communication with a larger network operating from outside India, facilitating the movement of drugs and weapons across the border.
CI officials said the operation underscores growing vigilance against transnational crime in Punjab and highlights the agency's focus on intercepting both drug and arms trafficking. Further interrogation is expected to reveal additional links and the scale of the network.
The seized contraband will be handed over to the relevant forensic and legal authorities for evidence processing, while the arrested suspects face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Arms Act.
