Police in Ajmer have arrested a man who pretended to be a confidant of a Union minister and demanded Rs 1 lakh to arrange a transfer for a woman’s husband.
Ajmer police arrested a 35‑year‑old suspect accused of cheating a resident by promising to secure a transfer for the resident's wife from Bhiwandi to Ajmer. The accused presented himself as a close associate of a Union minister and asked for Rs 1 lakh as a processing fee. The victim filed a complaint after the promised transfer failed to materialise. Investigators said the fraud hinged on false claims of political connections to extract money. The suspect has been remanded in judicial custody pending further inquiry.
