A 16‑year‑old boy, Harish, was electrocuted while climbing onto a roof to remove a tent during heavy rain in Jalandhar West’s Daanishmanta area. His family has accused the local councilor of negligence.
On Sunday evening, heavy rain struck the Daanishmanta neighbourhood of Jalandhar West, prompting residents to secure a leaking tent on a roof. 16‑year‑old Harish attempted to help by climbing onto the roof, where he was struck by an electric current and died at the scene.
The incident occurred on a residential street in the Daanishmanta area, a densely populated sector of Jalandhar West. Witnesses reported that the roof was poorly insulated and that power lines were exposed during the storm.
Harish’s family has publicly accused the local councilor of negligence, claiming that the council failed to ensure safe conditions for residents during the storm. They have demanded an investigation into the councilor’s responsibilities.
Police have opened a case and are reviewing the safety protocols of the area. The Jalandhar Municipal Corporation has stated that it will cooperate with the investigation and review its storm‑response procedures.
