Researchers from the Zoological Survey of India announced the discovery of two previously unknown spider species, one found in Andhra Pradesh and the other in Meghalaya.

The Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) has reported the identification of two new spider species, adding to the country’s rich arachnid diversity.
The first species was collected from a forested area in Andhra Pradesh, while the second was discovered in Meghalaya’s hilly terrain.
ZSI scientists highlighted the importance of continued field surveys in understudied regions, noting that many species remain undocumented.
The findings were published in a recent ZSI bulletin and will be further examined for ecological significance and conservation status.
This discovery underscores India’s role as a biodiversity hotspot and the need to protect its varied habitats.
