The Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) has issued a firm statement that it will oppose the pending amendment to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) if its concerns regarding the bill’s implications for Mizoram’s non‑governmental organisations are not addressed.
ZPM’s spokesperson highlighted that the proposed changes could tighten restrictions on foreign funding, potentially hampering the operations of local NGOs that rely on international support for community development projects.
The party’s stance comes ahead of the parliamentary debate scheduled for next month, as the government seeks to broaden the scope of the FCRA to enhance transparency and accountability.
ZPM’s leaders have called for a dialogue with the Ministry of Home Affairs to clarify the bill’s provisions and to ensure that the unique socio‑economic context of Mizoram is taken into account.
