Yakshagana Academy Calls on CM Shivakumar to Declare Yakshagana Karnataka’s State Art

The Yakshagana Academy has formally requested Chief Minister Shivakumar to declare Yakshagana, the vibrant folk theatre of coastal Karnataka, as the state’s official art form.

Yakshagana, known for its elaborate costumes, rhythmic music and dramatic storytelling, has long been a cultural treasure of the region.

Designating it as a state art would give the art form greater recognition and support, potentially opening avenues for funding, preservation and wider promotion.

The academy has submitted its plea to the government, and it is now awaiting a response from the chief minister’s office.
