A panel of judges from West Bengal tribunals has written to the Election Commission asking it to resolve technical glitches in its online portal and to remove the mandatory Aadhaar authentication for users.

A group of judges serving on West Bengal's tribunals has formally approached the Election Commission of India, seeking immediate remedial action on the commission's online portal. In their communication, the judges highlighted recurring technical glitches that impede smooth access for voters and officials alike.

The judges also raised concerns over the compulsory Aadhaar authentication currently required to log into the portal. They argued that the biometric verification adds unnecessary complexity and may disenfranchise users who lack Aadhaar or face authentication failures.

The tribunal panel urged the Election Commission to prioritize a comprehensive fix of the portal's functionality and to consider alternative, less restrictive authentication methods. The request comes as the commission continues to modernise its digital infrastructure ahead of upcoming electoral processes.

No response from the Election Commission has been reported at the time of this writing. The matter is expected to be reviewed in the context of ensuring accessible and secure electoral services across the state.
