The West Bengal government will start the Annapurna welfare scheme on June 1, providing a monthly cash assistance of ₹3,000 to eligible women.
Kolkata – The state government of West Bengal announced that the Annapurna scheme will be rolled out from June 1. Under the programme, each eligible woman will receive a direct cash transfer of ₹3,000 every month.
The scheme is positioned as a social‑welfare measure aimed at strengthening the economic security of women, particularly those from low‑income households. Officials said the assistance will be credited directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts to ensure transparency and timely delivery.
State authorities have indicated that the scheme will be funded from the state’s welfare budget and will be administered through existing women‑development departments. Further guidelines on eligibility criteria and enrollment procedures are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
The launch aligns with the government’s broader agenda of expanding social safety nets for vulnerable sections of society, especially women, as part of its commitment to inclusive development.
