Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said on Thursday that the state government will withdraw every case filed by the Trinamool Congress against Kurmi community members in connection with the disturbances that occurred in 2025. The announcement was made during a press briefing in Kolkata, where the minister emphasized the move as part of a broader effort to restore communal harmony.
The 2025 stir, which involved protests and occasional clashes in several districts of West Bengal, had led the TMC administration to register multiple criminal and civil cases against individuals identified as Kurmis. Those cases have been pending in courts for years, drawing criticism from community leaders who argued that the legal actions were politically motivated.
By scrapping the pending cases, the state aims to ease tensions with the Kurmi electorate ahead of upcoming local elections.
