The Election Commission of India has announced a deferment of the scheduled electoral roll revision in Jammu and Kashmir, delaying the update of voter lists in the region.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) issued a notice stating that the planned revision of electoral rolls in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir will not proceed as scheduled.
The revision, a routine exercise to add new voters and delete ineligible entries, had been slated for an upcoming period but has been put on hold pending further review.
As a result, the existing voter list will remain in force for any elections held until the roll is updated, and the ECI has indicated that it will announce a new timetable in due course.
Political parties and civil‑society groups have been asked to monitor the development, although the commission did not disclose specific reasons for the postponement.
