The West Bengal government has instructed state authorities to organise a Teacher Eligibility Test for 90,000 in‑service teachers, following a Supreme Court ruling that mandates the test for all teachers.
The Supreme Court of India has recently ruled that all teachers, including those already in service, must sit for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) to ensure uniform standards across the country. In response, the West Bengal government has directed state authorities to prepare for a large‑scale TET that will cover 90,000 in‑service teachers across the state. The education department will coordinate the logistics, including venue selection, exam dates, and candidate registration, aiming to complete the process within the next six months. This move is expected to bring West Bengal in line with national norms and enhance the quality of teaching in its schools.
