West Bengal Orders Closure of 252 Madrassas, Sends Show-Cause Notices to 100

The West Bengal government has announced the closure of 252 madrassas across the state, citing compliance and regulatory concerns. In addition to the shutdowns, the administration has sent show‑cause notices to 100 of the institutions, demanding explanations for their continued operation. The notices are part of a broader effort to ensure that all educational establishments meet the required legal and safety standards. Minister Kshudiram Tudu clarified that madrassas which possess the necessary approvals and meet regulatory criteria will be allowed to continue functioning under the new guidelines.
