Authorities from West Bengal and Assam are jointly working to capture a tigree that wandered into Assam's Raimona National Park.
State wildlife officials from West Bengal have reached out to their counterparts in Assam after a female tiger was sighted inside Raimona National Park, a protected area on the Assam side of the India‑Bangladesh border. The animal, believed to have strayed from a reserve in Bengal, prompted immediate coordination between the two state forest departments.
Both teams are deploying a team of forest rangers and veterinarians to locate and safely tranquilise the tigress, aiming to transport her back to her original habitat without harming the animal. Preliminary assessments suggest the tiger is healthy, and officials are taking precautions to avoid stress during the capture.
The joint operation underscores the collaborative approach required for managing wildlife that moves across state boundaries, especially in the fragile Sundarbans‑Brahmaputra ecosystem where human‑wildlife interactions are common. Officials have also briefed local communities near the park about safety measures while the rescue effort is underway.
