All-rounder Vipraj Nigam has been named in India’s cricket squad for the Asian Games, stepping in for the injured Varun Chakravarthy.

Veteran all‑rounder Vipraj Nigam received a call‑up to the Indian cricket contingent for the upcoming Asian Games, filling the vacancy created by Varun Chakravarthy’s injury. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the change ahead of the multi‑sport event scheduled to be held later this year.

Varun Chakravarthy, a key spin bowler for the national side, was ruled out after sustaining an injury that prevents him from participating in the Games. The exact nature of the injury has not been disclosed, but the decision to replace him was taken to ensure a balanced squad.

Nigam, who has previously featured in domestic tournaments and the Indian Premier League, welcomes the unexpected opportunity to represent the country on an international stage. He will join the squad for the pre‑tournament camp and the subsequent matches at the Asian Games venue.

The inclusion of Nigam adds depth to the team’s all‑round options as India prepares to compete against other Asian nations in the cricket competition, aiming for a podium finish.
