In Satna’s Tharpahad village, a lack of road access forced villagers to carry a sick resident on a makeshift stretcher for 1.5 km to reach the main road after an ambulance could not arrive.

Tharpahad village, located in the Satna district of Madhya Pradesh, has long struggled with poor road connectivity, leaving many residents isolated during emergencies.

When a local farmer fell ill, an ambulance dispatched from the nearest health centre could not reach the village due to the absence of a proper road. The vehicle was forced to turn back, leaving the patient stranded.

In response, a group of villagers improvised a stretcher using a blanket and poles, forming a makeshift sling. They carried the patient on their shoulders for about 1.5 kilometres, navigating uneven terrain, until they reached the main road where the ambulance could finally pick him up.

The incident has drawn attention to the urgent need for infrastructure development in rural areas, with local authorities now under pressure to pave the route that connects Tharpahad to the district’s main thoroughfare.
