Traffic authorities have seized a vehicle for lacking a valid PUC certificate and insurance, with the pending fine estimated at 21 times the construction cost of the Atal Bridge.

The traffic police in an Indian jurisdiction seized a motor vehicle after discovering that it did not possess a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate or a current insurance policy. Under the applicable motor vehicle regulations, operating a vehicle without these mandatory documents attracts a hefty penalty.

According to officials, the outstanding fine for the violation is calculated to be roughly twenty-one times the amount spent on constructing the Atal Bridge, underscoring the severity of the breach. The enforcement team issued an electronic memo (e-memo) to the vehicle owner, warning that failure to settle the amount would result in the vehicle's continued detention.

The seized vehicle will remain under police custody until the owner clears the fine and provides the required documentation. This action reflects a broader crackdown by authorities to ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards on Indian roads.

Police spokespersons emphasized that the measure aims to deter motorists from neglecting legal obligations, thereby improving road safety and reducing pollution. The department urged all vehicle owners to regularly renew their PUC certificates and insurance policies to avoid similar punitive actions.

The incident serves as a reminder that non‑compliance can lead to severe financial consequences, with fines reaching astronomical levels relative to public infrastructure projects.
