The wildlife‑trade watchdog CITES received Vantara's voluntary pledge to set up a dedicated fund and halt all imports of listed species.
Vantara, a multinational firm operating in India, has formally submitted a set of voluntary commitments to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). The company announced the creation of a dedicated fund aimed at supporting conservation projects and ensuring compliance with CITES regulations. In addition, Vantara pledged to cease all imports of wildlife products that fall under the convention's protected list.
The voluntary package is intended to demonstrate Vantara's proactive stance on biodiversity protection and to align its supply chain with global sustainability standards. By earmarking financial resources, the firm aims to assist NGOs and local communities engaged in habitat restoration and anti‑poaching initiatives.
CITES officials welcomed the move, noting that private‑sector participation can complement governmental efforts to curb illegal wildlife trade. Vantara's commitments are expected to be reviewed annually, with progress reports submitted to the convention's secretariat.
