Valmiki Brotherhood blocks roads in Amritsar to protest indecency

Amritsar, Punjab – On Thursday, activists from the Valmiki Brotherhood erected a blockade on a major thoroughfare in the city, citing objection to recent incidents they described as "बेअदबी" (indecent behavior). The group positioned barricades and urged commuters to avoid the area until their grievances are addressed.
The protesters carried placards in Hindi and Punjabi, demanding that local authorities intervene to curb the alleged misconduct. They also called for stricter enforcement of public decency norms and promised to continue the demonstration if their concerns are not taken up.
Police officials arrived at the site shortly after the blockade was set up and began negotiations with the group’s representatives. While traffic was temporarily disrupted, authorities assured that they would investigate the complaints and restore normal flow as soon as possible.
No arrests were reported, and the Valmiki Brotherhood indicated that the protest would be lifted only after a satisfactory response from municipal officials.
The incident underscores rising community activism in Punjab over issues of public morality and civic order.
