A man from Uttarakhand has been detained by police after uploading videos that defamed a woman and a BJP Member of Legislative Assembly.
A police officer in Uttarakhand detained a local resident on Monday after the state’s law enforcement received complaints about a series of online videos that allegedly defamed a woman and a BJP Member of Legislative Assembly.
The videos, posted on social media platforms, contained unverified claims and slanderous remarks aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the woman and the MLA. Authorities say the content was circulated widely in the region, prompting immediate action.
Uttarakhand Police spokesperson Ramesh Kumar stated that the arrested individual had been identified through digital footprints and was taken into custody at a police station in the district.
The suspect is currently being held in police custody pending investigation. He faces charges under the Indian Penal Code for defamation and the Information Technology Act for online harassment.
