A multi‑storey building in Old Delhi collapsed early today, killing two people and leaving several others trapped under the rubble.
A multi‑storey residential building in the historic Old Delhi area collapsed shortly after sunrise, sending concrete and debris onto the street below. Emergency services were alerted within minutes and arrived at the scene to assess the damage.
The collapse resulted in two fatalities, identified by local authorities, and left several residents buried under the wreckage. Rescue teams, including fire‑fighters and police, began digging through the rubble with hand tools and excavators to reach those trapped.
Authorities have cordoned off the area and are conducting a preliminary investigation to determine whether structural weaknesses or illegal modifications contributed to the failure. The Delhi Municipal Corporation has been asked to review building compliance records for the site.
Families of the victims have been taken to nearby hospitals for medical attention, and a relief camp has been set up to provide food and shelter to displaced residents.
