The Uttar Pradesh government has increased the Dearness Allowance for its employees by 5%, taking the rate to 63%, and will pay arrears dating back to July 1.
The Uttar Pradesh administration announced a 5% rise in Dearness Allowance (DA), bringing the overall rate to 63% for all state government employees. The decision, disclosed through an official circular, aims to offset the impact of rising inflation on salaried staff.
Effective from July 1, the increased DA will be backdated, meaning workers will receive arrears for the period between July 1 and the date of implementation. The government has instructed finance departments to process the adjustments promptly.
The move aligns Uttar Pradesh with recent DA revisions in other states and reflects the central government's broader effort to cushion wage earners against price pressures. Officials said the hike will be funded from the state's revised salary budget for the fiscal year.
Labor unions welcomed the increase, noting that the additional allowance will help mitigate the cost-of-living squeeze faced by many public‑sector workers. The administration has not indicated any further changes to the DA rate for the current financial year.
