Uttar Pradesh's number of medical colleges has more than doubled since 2017, pushing the total MBBS seats to over 13,600, according to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that the state of Uttar Pradesh has more than doubled its medical colleges since 2017, resulting in a total of over 13,600 MBBS seats. The expansion reflects the government's push to strengthen medical education and address the shortage of doctors across the state.

The increase in institutions has been part of a broader policy drive to improve healthcare infrastructure and make medical training more accessible to students from diverse backgrounds. By expanding seat capacity, the state aims to produce a larger pool of qualified physicians to serve both urban and rural populations.

Officials said the new colleges meet regulatory standards set by the Medical Council of India, ensuring that the quality of education remains consistent despite the rapid growth. The CM emphasized that the move will also help curb the outflow of students seeking medical seats in other states.

Stakeholders, including student bodies and health professionals, welcomed the announcement, noting that more seats could alleviate the intense competition for limited MBBS positions nationwide.

The government plans to continue monitoring the performance of these institutions and explore further expansions to meet the evolving healthcare needs of Uttar Pradesh's 200 million residents.
