Vote counting for the West Bengal by‑polls in Nandigram and Rejinagar has started, marking the first electoral test for Prime Minister Modi’s BJP‑led government.
The counting of ballots cast in the recent West Bengal by‑elections for the Nandigram and Rejinagar assembly seats began today. These two constituencies were among several where by‑polls were held after vacancies arose, and the results are being closely monitored across the country.
Observers say the outcome will provide the first concrete gauge of public sentiment toward the BJP‑led central government since it assumed office. Both the ruling party and opposition candidates are awaiting the tally, which will be announced once the counting process is complete.
The Economic Times reported that the proceedings are proceeding smoothly, with election officials overseeing the verification and tabulation of votes at designated counting centers in the two districts. The final verdict is expected to be declared later today, offering an early indication of the political climate ahead of upcoming state and national contests.
