The government’s 8th Pay Commission is expected to increase the basic salary of employees earning Rs 18,000, introducing a revised fitment factor.

New calculations released by the 8th Central Pay Commission indicate that staff members whose basic pay stands at Rs 18,000 will see an upward revision. The commission has adjusted the fitment factor, a multiplier used to determine salary increments across pay bands, to reflect current inflation and cost‑of‑living pressures.

The revised fitment factor will be applied uniformly, ensuring that the Rs 18,000 bracket moves to a higher pay band without altering the underlying structure of the commission’s recommendations. Officials say the change aims to bring parity with comparable positions in the private sector.

While the exact date of implementation remains pending, the government has signaled that the updated figures will be incorporated in the next salary cycle for central and state employees covered by the commission.
