A man in Uttar Pradesh was detained after he used a sword to cut birthday cakes placed on a vehicle’s bonnet on a highway.
Police in Uttar Pradesh reported that a man brandishing a sword approached a moving vehicle on a state highway and sliced through several birthday cakes that had been placed on the car's bonnet. Witnesses said the cakes were part of a celebration and the sudden attack caused panic among nearby commuters.
The suspect, described as a middle‑aged male, continued to swing the sword before being restrained by traffic police who arrived at the scene. No injuries were reported, but the incident disrupted traffic for several minutes.
Authorities took the individual into custody and are investigating possible motives, including whether the act was a prank or a deliberate act of vandalism. He is expected to face charges under sections relating to public nuisance and possession of a weapon in a public place.
The police have appealed to the public to avoid placing items on vehicle bonnets while the vehicle is in motion, citing safety concerns.
