The Union Public Service Commission celebrated its centenary, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi announcing the release of a commemorative coin, postage stamp and a book, while 1.2 million candidates sit for its exams.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), the apex body responsible for recruiting civil servants, marked its 100th anniversary on Tuesday. Established in 1926, the commission has been the cornerstone of merit‑based recruitment in India for a century.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that a commemorative coin, a postage stamp and a book celebrating UPSC’s history will be released to mark the milestone. The coin and stamp are expected to be distributed to the public, while the book will detail the commission’s evolution and achievements.

Every year, about 12 lakh aspirants take UPSC exams, making it one of the most competitive examinations in the country. The centenary celebrations aim to honour the commission’s role in shaping India’s administrative cadre over the past 100 years.

The release of the commemorative items is part of a broader effort to highlight UPSC’s legacy and inspire future generations of civil servants.
