The Union Minister highlighted that developing agriculture tourism can create new income streams and attract visitors to India's Northeast region.

The Union Minister emphasized that agriculture tourism holds significant promise for the eight states of India's Northeast, suggesting it could become a catalyst for regional development. In a recent statement, the minister noted that integrating farming activities with visitor experiences can diversify farmers' earnings while showcasing the area's unique cultural and natural assets.

By encouraging tourists to stay in rural homestays, participate in farm‑based activities, and purchase local produce, the initiative aims to generate supplementary income for agricultural households. It also seeks to promote lesser‑known cuisines, handicrafts, and traditional practices, thereby preserving heritage and creating market linkages.

The government plans to collaborate with state tourism departments to improve infrastructure, provide training for farmers on hospitality standards, and launch promotional campaigns targeting domestic and international travelers. Such coordinated efforts are expected to boost employment, especially among youth, and stimulate ancillary services like transport and retail.

Officials acknowledge challenges such as limited connectivity, the need for quality certification, and ensuring environmental sustainability. They have pledged to address these issues through targeted schemes and capacity‑building programs, positioning agriculture tourism as a long‑term growth engine for the region.
