UN Secretary‑General called on all member states to reinforce and advance the UN80 initiative, aimed at revitalising the organization’s agenda.
New York – In a recent address, United Nations Secretary‑General Antonio Guterres appealed to member states to actively support and carry forward the UN80 initiative. The programme, launched to mark the UN’s 80‑year journey, seeks to renew commitment to the organization’s core values and accelerate progress on sustainable development, peace and security.
Guterres emphasized that the initiative’s success depends on concrete actions by governments, including increased funding, policy alignment and collaborative projects at national and local levels. He highlighted that the UN80 framework provides a roadmap for addressing climate change, inequality and conflict resolution.
The Secretary‑General urged that each state integrate the UN80 goals into their development plans and report on measurable outcomes, reinforcing the UN’s role as a catalyst for global cooperation.
The call comes as the UN prepares for a series of high‑level meetings later this year to review the initiative’s implementation and set targets for the next decade.
