Ujjain's Mahakaleshwar Temple Holds Bhasma Aarti on Bhadrapad Krishna Pratipada

On the first day of the waning moon in Bhadrapad, the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain conducted the traditional Bhasma Aarti at 3 a.m. The deity received a panchamrit abhishek, was adorned with bhang, a silver crown and a garland of mund beads.
The Bhasma Aarti, a hallmark ritual of the Mahakaleshwar Temple, commenced at 3 a.m. on the auspicious day of Bhadrapad Krishna Pratipada. Priests performed the panchamrit abhishek, offering a mixture of milk, curd, honey, ghee and sugar to the lingam.
Following the abhishek, the deity was attractively decorated with bhang (cannabis leaves), a silver crown and a mund mala, a garland traditionally made of rudraksha beads. The temple premises resonated with chants of "Mahakal" as devotees gathered to witness the ceremony.
Officials noted that the observance follows the age‑old tradition linked to the lunar calendar, drawing pilgrims from across Madhya Pradesh and neighboring states. The event concluded with the distribution of prasad to the attendees.
