DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin criticised the Telangana state administration for its handling of farmer concerns, saying the policies are hurting the agrarian community.
Udhayanidhi Stalin, a prominent figure in the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and son of Tamil Nadu chief minister M.K. Stalin, publicly denounced the Telangana government’s approach to farmer issues. Speaking at a press briefing in Hyderabad, he alleged that recent policies have failed to address the core problems faced by cultivators, leading to heightened distress in the state’s rural areas.
Stalin highlighted that the lack of adequate irrigation support, insufficient loan waivers, and delayed procurement prices are exacerbating farmer hardships. He urged the Telangana administration, led by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, to engage directly with farmer unions and implement immediate relief measures.
The remarks come amid growing agitation by farmer groups across Telangana, who have staged protests demanding better water allocation and fair market rates. While the state government has announced a few relief packages, Stalin’s comments suggest that opposition parties view these steps as inadequate.
Political analysts note that Stalin’s intervention is likely aimed at consolidating opposition sentiment ahead of upcoming local elections, positioning the DMK and its allies as defenders of agrarian interests.
