Turkey's President Erdogan raises Kashmir at UNGA, urges dialogue under UN Charter

During the opening session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan took the floor to address the long‑standing Kashmir dispute. He described the issue as a matter of regional peace and stability that continues to affect millions of people on both sides of the Line of Control.

Erdogan invoked the principles of the UN Charter, emphasizing that conflicts should be settled through peaceful dialogue and mutual respect. He urged the governments of India and Pakistan to engage directly, without preconditions, to find a sustainable solution that respects the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

The Turkish leader also called on the broader international community to support any initiative that fosters constructive talks, underscoring that a negotiated settlement is the only viable path to lasting peace in South Asia.
