Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb announced that 80% of District Council areas now have piped water supply and highlighted innovative measures for drinking water in hilly regions.

In a recent address, Tripura’s Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb revealed that 80 per cent of the state’s District Council areas are now connected to piped water supply systems. The announcement was made during a ceremony that also showcased new initiatives aimed at ensuring safe drinking water in the state’s hilly terrains.

The CM emphasized that the expansion of piped water infrastructure is part of a broader strategy to improve public health and reduce dependence on untreated surface water. He also highlighted the use of modern filtration and storage technologies tailored to the unique challenges of mountainous regions.

Officials said the project, which began last year, involved the installation of water mains, treatment plants, and community-level distribution points. The state government plans to extend coverage to the remaining 20 per cent of District Council areas over the next two years.

The initiative has been welcomed by local residents and health experts, who note that reliable piped water can significantly lower the incidence of waterborne diseases.

The Tripura government will continue to monitor the project’s progress and explore further innovations to secure clean water for all its citizens.
