Tiger Spotted Near Linga‑Pondi, Kanhur Tola Cattle Attack in Balaghat

A tiger was sighted between Linga and Pondi villages in Balaghat district and later killed two cows in Kanhur Tola, sparking anger among villagers.
Balaghat district authorities reported a tiger moving through the forested stretch that separates the villages of Linga and Pondi on Thursday morning. Local residents who were out in the fields said the animal was clearly visible for several minutes before it disappeared into the dense undergrowth.
Later the same day, the same tiger is believed to have entered the hamlet of Kanhur Tola, where it attacked and killed two cattle belonging to different households. The incident was confirmed by villagers who found the carcasses near the village boundary and alerted the forest department.
The loss of livestock has provoked strong protests from the farming community, who fear further attacks and the economic impact of losing their cattle. Villagers gathered near the local panchayat office, demanding immediate action and compensation.
Forest officials have dispatched a team of wildlife officers to the area to track the animal and assess the situation. They have urged residents to avoid venturing into the forest at night and have promised to increase patrols to prevent any recurrence.
