A sweltering, humid day in Telangana was followed by widespread thunderstorms overnight, bringing brief relief and localized rain showers.
Temperatures across Telangana climbed well above the seasonal norm on Thursday, with the heat intensified by high humidity levels that made the day feel especially oppressive.
As night fell, the atmosphere destabilised, triggering a series of thunderstorms that swept through the state. Heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds were reported in several districts, bringing a sudden drop in temperature.
The showers provided temporary respite from the heat but also caused localized flooding in low‑lying areas, disrupting traffic on some arterial roads and prompting minor power outages in a few neighborhoods.
The India Meteorological Department issued an advisory urging residents to stay indoors during the storms, avoid standing water, and exercise caution while traveling on wet roads.
Forecasters expect the weather to stabilise by early Friday, with cooler temperatures and reduced humidity, though the possibility of isolated showers remains as the monsoon season approaches.
