On Bhadrapad Shukla Chaturdashi, devotees flocked to Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar Temple where Baba Mahakal was adorned in Ganesh form for a special bhasma aarti.
Ujjain’s historic Mahakaleshwar Temple observed a distinctive ritual on Bhadrapad Shukla Chaturdashi, the auspicious day that marks the end of the Hindu month of Bhadrapada. The temple’s priests performed a special bhasma aarti, a ritual involving sacred ash, and presented Baba Mahakal in the form of Lord Ganesh.
The deity was meticulously adorned with Ganesh’s iconic attributes – a trunk, a single tusk and a crown of flowers – while traditional incense, lamps and devotional chants filled the sanctum. The ritual included a ceremonial abhishek, followed by the distribution of ash to the assembled crowd as a symbol of purification.
A large congregation of devotees, estimated in the thousands, gathered in the temple courtyard to witness the unique presentation. The atmosphere was charged with reverence and festive fervour, as worshippers offered prayers, sang bhajans and participated in the ash distribution, believing it would bestow blessings and protection.
