Thieves broke into a locked, unoccupied house in Shri Ganganagar and stole gold, silver jewellery, cash and household items worth several million rupees while the owners were away for a family event.
Police in Rajasthan's northern district of Shri Ganganagar reported a major burglary at a vacant residence that had been secured with a lock. Investigators say a group of thieves forced the lock open and entered the empty house, targeting valuables stored inside.
The intruders made off with gold and silver jewellery, cash and a range of household items, with the total value estimated in the multiple‑million‑rupee range. The stolen assets included precious ornaments and liquid cash, indicating the house was being used as a temporary storage point for family wealth.
According to neighbours, the house's occupants were away attending a program organized by relatives when the crime occurred. The family had left the property locked, assuming it would remain untouched during their absence.
Local law enforcement has launched an investigation, collecting forensic evidence from the broken lock and surrounding area. Officers have appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the perpetrators.
The incident underscores growing concerns about security for vacant properties in the region, prompting calls for stronger community vigilance and improved lock mechanisms.
