The Telangana Government’s Safe Food Authority (TG SAFE) has warned that pheni and khara sold ahead of Dasara may be unsafe, urging consumers to exercise caution.

The Telangana Government’s Safe Food Authority, known as TG SAFE, released an advisory this week cautioning consumers about the safety of pheni and khara being sold in the run‑up to the Dasara celebrations. The agency highlighted that some batches of these popular festive snacks may be contaminated or adulterated, posing health risks such as food‑borne illnesses.

TG SAFE urged shoppers to purchase the sweets only from licensed vendors, verify that the products are properly sealed, and avoid items that appear discoloured or have an off‑taste. The authority also announced that it will increase inspections of street stalls and small shops in major towns ahead of the festival.

The warning comes as Dasara approaches, a period when demand for traditional sweets like pheni and savoury snacks such as khara spikes across Telangana. Officials said they are monitoring the market closely and will take action against any seller found violating food‑safety standards.

Consumers are advised to report any suspected unsafe food to the TG SAFE helpline, which operates round the clock during the festive season.
