The Telangana government announced a scheme to convert 18,766 auto‑rickshaws operating in Hyderabad to electric vehicles, aiming to boost clean mobility.

Hyderabad – The state government of Telangana has unveiled a plan to replace 18,766 conventional auto‑rickshaws in the city with electric models. The announcement was made as part of the administration’s broader effort to modernise urban transport and curb air pollution.

The conversion drive aligns with India’s national agenda to accelerate electric‑vehicle adoption across major cities. By shifting a large fleet of three‑wheelers to battery power, the state expects a noticeable reduction in carbon emissions and a decrease in reliance on fossil fuels.

Implementation will be coordinated by the state transport department, which will work with electric‑vehicle manufacturers and local operators to ensure a smooth transition. Officials anticipate that the electric autos will offer lower operating costs for drivers and a quieter, cleaner commuting experience for Hyderabad’s residents.
