Telangana schools close internet gap yet trail Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu

Recent reporting by the Times of India indicates that Telangana's education department has taken steps to improve broadband access in government schools, narrowing the digital gap that long hampered remote learning. Initiatives such as the deployment of Wi‑Fi routers and partnerships with telecom providers have enabled many classrooms to go online for the first time.

Despite these gains, comparative surveys reveal that the proportion of schools with reliable internet in Telangana remains lower than in neighboring Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, where state‑wide connectivity programmes have achieved broader coverage. Experts note that infrastructure constraints and uneven funding continue to limit the speed and reliability of the networks in several districts.

State officials acknowledge the shortfall and have pledged further investment to upgrade backbone links and extend coverage to rural schools. The goal, they say, is to bring Telangana's school internet penetration on par with the leading southern states by the end of the next fiscal year.
