The state’s flagship health programmes are under strain as unpaid medical bills totalling about Rs 2,000 crore have yet to be cleared.
Hyderabad – Telangana’s major public health schemes are facing a financial crunch after the state government has not settled medical reimbursements amounting to roughly Rs 2,000 crore. The outstanding dues relate to services rendered under programmes such as Aarogyasri and other subsidised treatment initiatives.
The delay is affecting hospitals that rely on timely payments to maintain supplies, staff salaries and infrastructure. Patients in low‑income brackets risk reduced access to free or heavily subsidised care as hospitals become cautious about providing services without assured reimbursement.
State officials acknowledged the backlog and said a detailed audit is underway to verify claims before releasing the funds. The health department has promised to expedite clearance within the next few weeks, citing the need to restore confidence among private partners and ensure uninterrupted delivery of essential health services.
