Shares of India’s leading IT firms TCS, Infosys and Wipro rose up to 5% on Monday, defying market expectations after the U.S. announced new green‑card restrictions for Indian tech workers.

Indian IT stocks rallied on Monday, with TCS, Infosys and Wipro all climbing as much as 5% in early trading.

The surge came after the U.S. Department of Labor tightened green‑card eligibility for Indian software engineers, a move that had been expected to weigh on the sector.

Investors cited strong earnings guidance and a robust demand for cloud and cybersecurity services as reasons for the upbeat sentiment.

Analysts noted that the NIFTY IT index gained 1.8% in the session, marking the highest single‑day rise in the index’s recent history.

"The market is looking beyond short‑term policy changes to the long‑term growth prospects of the IT sector," said a senior equity strategist at a leading brokerage firm.
