The abbot of Tawang Monastery has appealed to Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu to expedite approval for the new Siddharth Vihar Gompa, a project aimed at expanding Buddhist monastic infrastructure in the region.
The abbot of Tawang Monastery, one of the largest Buddhist centers in northeastern India, has formally requested the Arunachal Pradesh government to fast‑track the approval of the Siddharth Vihar Gompa project. The proposed gompa, located near the existing monastery complex, is intended to accommodate monks, scholars and pilgrims, thereby strengthening the region’s religious tourism. In a statement, the abbot highlighted the need for timely clearance to ensure that construction can begin before the monsoon season and to meet the growing demand for monastic facilities. The appeal was directed to Chief Minister Pema Khandu, who is expected to review the proposal in the coming weeks.
