Tamil Nadu Gas Leak: Odia Worker's Death Raises Toll to 6; 5 Bodies Returning Today

The death toll from a gas leak at a seafood factory in Tamil Nadu has climbed to six with the demise of another Odia worker undergoing treatment. The mortal remains of five victims are expected to arrive in Odisha today.

The number of Odia workers who have died following a gas leak incident in Tamil Nadu has now reached six. The latest victim, identified as Jamuni Juang from Keonjhar district, passed away while receiving medical care at a hospital in Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, the bodies of five Juang tribal women, all from Keonjhar district in Odisha, are scheduled to be brought back to their home state today. Officials from Odisha are expected to accompany the mortal remains. Three of the deceased hailed from Telkoi block, while two were from Banspal block.

The tragic incident occurred on Sunday due to a gas leak at a seafood factory located in Periyapalayam, within the Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu. The situation remains concerning as four other women are reportedly in critical condition, raising fears of a further increase in the fatalities.
