State officials said the initial release will be measured, with continuous monitoring to determine how long the reservoir can maintain a steady outflow. Engineers from the Water Resources Department highlighted that the longevity of the release depends on inflow from upstream catchments and current reservoir levels.
Farmers in the downstream areas have welcomed the move, expecting relief after weeks of water scarcity. The government has pledged to keep the gates open as long as water availability permits, while also urging conservation to extend the benefits.
