Chief Minister Vijay alleged that senior DMK functionaries collected money in the name of party funds, prompting calls for a probe into the alleged financial irregularities.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay said on Monday that several leaders of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) have been gathering cash by presenting it as contributions to the party's fund. He asserted that the practice violates the party's internal financial norms and could amount to illegal collection of money.
The chief minister did not name specific individuals but indicated that the alleged activity has been ongoing for some time. He called for an immediate internal audit and urged law enforcement agencies to examine the transactions to determine whether any criminal provisions have been breached.
Opposition parties and DMK representatives have yet to respond to the allegations. The statement comes ahead of the upcoming local body elections, adding a political dimension to the controversy.
If proven, the accusations could have significant repercussions for the DMK's image and its fundraising mechanisms, officials said. The state government has promised to monitor the situation closely and ensure transparency in political financing.
